Alan: Consider the following post on my friend K's Facebook page. No one in their right mind cannot know that The GOP is The Party of Big Business and Ungodly Wealth Sequestration. But there is no hint of cognitive dissonance in K's assertion that this Democrat is "just keeping rich cats fat." (Nor is there indication that Koch Brother financing of Tea Party operations is SOP.) A fundamental epistemological flaw in contemporary conservatives persuades them that any datum -- even if it is a self-evident exception to The Rule -- can be immediately transformed into a New Rule. There is no need for significant statistical samples. Any single anecdote is enough to overturn History and Scholarship.
