Alan: Information can be marshalled in many ways, and many of those ways are "apparently true" but "manifestly false." 

Consider "Zeno's Paradox." 

Logically, an arrow (or any projectile) never reaches its destination. 

How can this be? 

It's simple. 

If every projectile begins by traveling half the distance to its destination, and then the remaining half, and again the remaining half -- etcetera ad finitum -- logically there will always be "half the remaining distance."

And so, an arrow never strikes its "target."

An elegant and unassailable proof.

Furthermore, when we take into account confirmation bias, credulousness, deliberate self-deception (driven by religous-and-value beliefs), alternative facts, generic denial and science denial, fear-mongering, "in-group" solidarity, and the self-sealing community of "true believers," it is easy -- to borrow Hitler's words -- to represent "heaven as hell" and "hell as heaven."

To believe the Sandy Hook slaughter was a theatrical production mounted by "crisis actors" is to consider The Truman Show a documentary.
