Alan: In my view, "The Shining" was Stanley Kubrick's worst movie.
Furthermore, the documentary movie "The Shining: Room 237" is nearly irrelevant as critique.
However, "Room 237" performs the great service of demonstrating how eagerly "Tom, Dick and Harry" cherry-pick factual data, then knit their bits of fractured meaning into elaborate tapestries that supposedly "prove" theories, one more bizarre than the next.
In the end, the very multiplicity of conspiratorial (and other wildly speculative) theories gives the lie to them all - or at least to most of them.
