The Best "Timing" For Trump's Ouster

Dear C,

Thanks for your email.

I hold that Trump should not be impeached (or otherwise ousted) until the thick of the 2020 presidential campaign.

Otherwise, Pence will have time to morph into a seemingly "sane," "reasonable," soft-spoken, "good Christian" Republican, whose political fortunes -- already considerable -- will get an added boost from favorable constrast with the lunacy of Agent Orange.

Make no mistake: Trump is out best bet to lose re-election.

However, if Pence is elected in 2020, America's neo-fascists will have the best possible "crystallizing agent" to consolidate a lasting shift to the right.

Indeed, fascism may be Christianity's most frequently-expressed "shadow."

Hitler and Mussolini were "cradle Catholics," and across Latin America fascist leaders in Argentina, Chile, El Salvador and Guatemala have also been "Christian."

By the end of a Christian-fascist Pence term (and it is notable that Pence, unlike Trump, does not have a single liberal impulse that might mitigate the horror) the Supreme Court could easily end up with a 6 to 3 or 7 to 2 conservative plurality that lasts 20 -30 years.

What is the downside to Trump's prolonged Reign of Terror?

It is possible that the longer Trump stays in power, the greater the likelihood he will use military might in a way that triggers nuclear war.

On balance, however, I think The Deplorable One -- at whatever moment he sees his political demise approaching -- will be equally tempted to "busy giddy minds with foreign quarrels," although the longer he stays in power, the stronger the nation's animus to keep him in check. Maybe...
