Alan: A fundamental purpose of the Catholic Church is to foster happy family life.
Part of this mission is to ensure that as many families as possible have children born into them.
However, it is increasingly clear that LGBTQ Catholics are getting the short end of the stick - and to no good purpose.
As important as happy family life is to human wellbeing, it is also a fact that a disproportionate percentage of nuns and priests are lesbian or gay and that to be a nun or a priest you must vow not to form a nuclear family of your own.
If the Catholic Church has already institutionalized acceptance of gay clerics and non-nuclear family devotees, why can't the Vatican's de facto accommodation be de jure accommodation as well?
Why the need for essential hypocrisy?
