Alan: The bedrock flaw in the conservative psyche is the bogus belief that sufficient application of force will solve any political problem.

Force did not work in Vietnam.

Force did not work in Iraq.

Force has not worked in Afghanistan (... Uncle Sam's war of longest duration).

And if we posit that The Treaty of Versailles sowed the seeds of World War II, and that the establishment of modern Israel was both the final outcome of World War II and the most likely cause of World War III, it is questionable whether either world war "worked."

Marshall McLuhan epitomizes this global sea change in modern warfare, noting: "To the spoils belongs the victor."

Notice that the "losers" of World War II -- Germany and Japan -- are arguably the world's most stable and prosperous states.

If we are honest, we will also acknowledge that the United States (the nation which supposedly "won" World War II) is literally coming undone, mad citizens on both sides of the aisle blithely ignorant of the the savage damage done to The Body Politic ever since Vietnam launched The Counter-Culture, thus triggering "The Great Unravelling."
