Alan: In his four part Netflix series on cooking, Michael Pollan argues that the use of fire to prepare food was contemporaneous with the emergence of culture and civilization.
Notably, the United States leads the world in how little time Americans spend preparing food.
In 1965, a typical American spent 60 minutes a day on food preparation.
But by 2015, the United States spent less time on daily food preparation than any other country in the world - just 27 minutes.
Readers of this blog know my commonplace reference to "The United States of Barbaria." Our reliance on the processed food industry -- to the near-exclusion of "home cooking" and the "loving creativity" that home-cooking evokes -- is another indicator -- perhaps a fundamental indicator -- of our collapsing civilization.
I strongly recommend Michael Pollan's "Cooked" which, being a Netflix production, is always streamable on Netflix' website.

"Gathering everyone to eat together"
When Jesus gathered the multitude for bread and fish, it is likely that everyone on that hillside was a practicing Jew - including Yeshua and the apostles.
"It" is not about staying inside the tribe.
