Obama's Preference For Single Payer Healthcare (Video)

average life expectancy cost of healthcare world rankings infographic
Alan: To facilitate your understanding of the above graph (from National Geographic), please note that the left-hand column cites per capita healthcare spending for each country listed in that column, while the right-hand column specifies each country's longevity ranging from approximately 73 years to 83 years. I will also point out that this graph can be difficult to understand at first because the bizarre inefficiency of America's per capita healthcare investment is so out of whack.

Obama Statements On Single-Payer Have Changed A Bit
PolitiFact

Yes, Obamacare IS a Trojan Horse paving the way for single payer healthcare. This largely educational process will enable Americans to realize -- over time -- what the civilized world has already realized (and demonstrated); that single payer is the ONLY cost-effective way to provide universal healthcare.

Obama's use of this Trojan Horse to bring people to a reasonable conclusion concerning cost-effective universal healthcare is not a bad thing.

Consider "the other side of the aisle" in which Trump uses all manner of falsehood to persuade people to reach unreasonable - and often spiteful-hateful conclusions - a modus operandi that elicits no hint of umbrage.

A parallel...

Slavery (originally represented as a Great Good) was a cultural Trojan Horse that created the ongoing rent in America's social fabric, a rip that now manifests as volcanic hostility between those citizens who recognize "the browning of America" is inevitable and other citizens who would "Make America White Again." (Final Solution anyone?)

The critical difference between these two Trojan Horses is that Obamacare aspires after The Common Good whereas Slavery which predicated the good of white people over the good of dark-skinned people is a form of dominance-submission favoritism that is fundamentally still in place.

The belief that "The Free Market" can provide cost-effective universal healthcare is a will-o'-the-wisp proven by a full century of for-profit health insurance.

During his campaign Trump, often asked why Hillary did not solve all the nation's problems while serving as a New York senator for 12 years.

I ask: "Why is it that for-profit health insurance -- over the course of 120 years -- did not solve the problem of universal healthcare?"

Why not?

Cost-effective universal healthcare is not "in the nature" of for-profit capitalism any more than it is "in the nature" of jackals to be vegetarian. (Read up on Marcus Aurelius and Thomas Aquinas https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Marcus_Aurelius - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Aquinas.)

Once Trump is inaugurated, keep your eyes peeled.

If Obamacare is repealed in favor of "free market" mechanisms, millions of people will lose healthcare coverage and most of them will not get it back under the supposedly new Republican "plan" which, tellingly, has never been detailed because it does not exist. Just as "a circle cannot be squared," for-profit universal healthcare does not exist because it cannot exist.

Since I am not a Republican, I do not know if the GOP believes its own lies about free-market universal healthcare, or if Republican leadership is consciously determined to re-institute "The Death Panel" of Insurance Company Sovereignty, in full, cynical knowledge that deadly punitiveness will appeal to The Republican Base.

The following article was pasted by Kyle Becker, a staunch opponent of Obamacare and other forms of government-coordinated universal healthcare systems. It is ironic that his condemnation impresses me as high praise.
Barack Obama repeatedly lauded single-payer universal healthcare systems while denying that Obamacare was a “trojan horse” for such a system.
In addition to the well-known quote circa 2003 in his address to the AFL-CIO about being a “proponent of single-payer universal healthcare system,” the president also discussed the matter in 2008, as reported by the Wall Street Journal:
“If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system,” Obama told some 1,800 people at a town-hall style meeting on the economy.
A single-payer system would eliminate private insurance companies and put a Medicare-like system into place where the government pays all health-care bills with tax dollars.
As Politifact pointed out, the president later talked about the consequences of moving towards a single-payer system in Annandale, Virginia on July 1, 2009:
“For us to transition completely from an employer-based system of private insurance to a single-payer system could be hugely disruptive, and my attitude has been that we should be able to find a way to create a uniquely American solution to this problem that controls costs but preserves the innovation that is introduced in part with a free-market system.”
Of course, as insurance premiums continue to skyrocket and price companies out of the state exchanges, and employers continue to dump coverage for employees and spouses onto the government, one must wonder how well a free market can coexist with a government participant that can raise “revenue” through taxes and set the business terms of its “competitors.”
