Alan: I wish to thank my mentor, Philip Sturman of Letchworth, England, for introducing me to Carl Jung, whose psychology was the only one that flowed harmonically for him.

"Life really does begin at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research."

Tenzin Gyatso (the Dalai Lama): "Your efforts must be realistic. We must not rely on appearances. We must do research to determine what is real. With no research, you can't find reality."

Teilhard de Chardin S.J. said "there is less difference than people think between Research and Adoration."

Or more directly: "Adoration’s real name … is Research."

De Chardin claimed that without research "there can be no possibility… of real mystical life."

Alan: Homo sapiens is most accurately "defined" as a meaning-seeking creature.

Homo sapiens is also an energy-seeking species and there are, ultimately, two ways to appropriate energy: by fission or fusion, by breaking apart, or coming together.

Coming together," which manifests as creation and construction provide both energy and satisfaction.

Destruction, on the other hand, supplies energy but not satisfaction.

Therein lies the rub.

"Children are educated by what the grown-up is and not by his talk."

Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent
"Children live out the un-lived lives of their parents."

Alan: Lacking the imagination to see themselves compounded of good and evil, fundamentalists embrace ignorance and its evil twin, "innocence," thus becoming satanic - from the Greek "satanas" meaning "accuser," "adversary," "plotter," "obstructionist," "slanderer," "adversary."

Confident that they alone are "good" and "saved," and that "the other" is "evil" and "damned," fundamentalists not only wish to impose their ideals and standards, but feel that God obliges them to do so.

The situation recalls the old comedic line, "The devil made me do it."

Only now, God (not Satan) is seen as the agent who forces them to deny personal responsibility.
