In his speech at the Republican National Convention, Romney cited Obama's 2008 campaign promise on global warming. "My promise," Romney retorted, "is to help you and your family." The crowd laughed, then cheered:

Notice that the laughter is in response to Romney mocking Obama's stated determination to "slow the rise of the oceans."

No one on the east coast is laughing now.

There is something very wrong with contemporary Republicans.
