If Romney is such a good businessman, why was his campaign so shoddy?

The final 2012 election results are trickling in this morning and here they are. Barack Obama won 303 electoral votes to Romney’s 206, securing a second term in as President of the United States. The popular votes are still coming in, but Obama has a slight lead with 59,621,436 to Romney’s 56,989,709. (Alan: I don't know why this article refers to Obama's "slight" lead. In fact, Obama got 4.5% more votes than Romney did and he was the first re-elected president since FDR to win both election's with more than 50% of the popular vote.) The Democrats regain control of the senate with 51 seats to the GOP’s 45 and the Republicans regain control of the House with 232 seats to the Dems 191. You can view the electoral map progressions above.
At about 11:00pm ET, it was clear that Obama was able to win re-election by capturing swing state Ohio and its 18 electoral votes, providing him with the 270 electoral college votes needed.
The president’s official Twitter account quickly posted: “This happened because of you. Thank you.” He added: “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned and that’s who we are. Thank you.” And, in a third tweet, he said: “Four more years” and added a picture of he and his wife Michelle hugging.
Earlier in the evening Obama collected victories in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Hampshire, making GOP challenger Mitt Romney’s path to 270 electoral votes near-impossible. Obama also captured predicted victories in California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Washington.
Most analysts expected the call to come much later, but the election was called “about 20 minutes later than when Obama won his first term in 2008,” according to The Hill.
Obama will be sworn into office privately at noon on Jan. 20, 2013, in Washington D.C.
One of the biggest take-aways from last night’s presidential election was just how divided of a nation that we are. With a virtual split in the popular vote and a divided control of power in the Senate and House it is clear that as a nation we have a lot of work to do in order to get work done.
Once again President Obama has one of the worst jobs on the planet. Good luck to you sir.
