The only meaningful number in Romney's campaign

47%

Romney's other numbers are not there, or don't add up.
Here, for example, is how Romney balances the budget:

Obama's concluding comments, second presidential debate:
“I believe Governor Romney is a good man. Loves his family, cares about his faith. But I also believe that when he said behind closed doors that 47 percent of the country considered themselves victims who refuse personal responsibility, think about who he was talking about... Folks on Social Security who’ve worked all their lives. Veterans who’ve sacrificed for this country. Students who are out there trying to hopefully advance their own dreams, but also this country’s dreams. Soldiers who are overseas fighting for us right now. People who are working hard every day, paying payroll tax, gas taxes, but don’t make enough income. And I want to fight for them.”

In Romney's hour-long "47% Speech," his reference to half of Americans being irredeemably parasitic was drenched in disdain for American voters generally, not just the 47%.

At the outset of his speech, Romney is schmoozily congenial, but then uses a very ugly animus to say many damning things about the 47% - as well as "the American voter in general" who, according to Romney, doesn't deserve specifics. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/09/full-transcript-mitt-romney-secret-video

His view of non-tax-paying soldiers, seniors and students is this: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Wow.

Although Romney says many appalling things, what is most offensive to Americans -- and to America -- is that he says them in a way that reveals The 1%'s contemptuous clubbishness.

Who are the 47%?

Notice that the reddest states have, by far, the greatest number of residents who don't pay any federal tax. Notice that the bluest states pay disproportionate federal tax and that the resulting revenues become "transfer payments" from blue states to red.

Every generation has its Pharisees.

In America, the Pharisees congregate in The Republican Party.

The following comment is from a fellow who read the entire transcript of Romney's 47% talk.

Unbelievable, shocking, unthinkable.... I was going to vote for him, really, because I thought he would do a good job on deficit and economy... But, Who is this guy really? Does he believe in anything, but money and power.... unbelievable... http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/09/full-transcript-mitt-romney-secret-video
