The Mississippi Blues Project, produced by WXPN in Philadelphia, is a yearlong endeavor that showcases the rich musical heritage of the Magnolia State. From R.L. Burnside, Willie Dixon andCassandra Wilson to Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and the North Mississippi All Stars, the project features a comprehensive look at the history and future of Mississippi blues, with live concert videos, audio recordings, essays and photos.
Jonny Meister, of The Blues Show on WXPN, hosts this mix of music, designed to transport listeners to the smoky and storied juke joints where rough, earthy blues has been played for almost a century. The stream features music and interviews from numerous Mississippi blues musicians, as well as excerpts from the documentary film We Juke up in Here.
The Mississippi Blues Project has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project.
