Dear Fred,

I ended writing a blog post about "the topic" of white Europeans' perpetration of genocide in the Americas.

I don't want to get lost in the weeds of too long prelude but I will say that your view of the Snohomish almost certainly undervalues the role of deliberate, systematic, persistent destruction of Native American culture. 

Since I relate mostly to my Irish forebears (County Clare, the epicenter of traditional Irish music), I will note that SOBMF Cromwell, "a well-cultured Brit," quartered his troops' horses in Dublin's Cathedral.

And during the deadly potato famine of the 1840s, British overlords shipped bounteous supplies of wheat from Ireland to other parts of the world because the Irish were deemed so sub-human that they deserved nothing more than dirty potatoes, a root crop fit for those who grovel about on all fours. 

There is a well-worn joke about British treatment of the Irish.

I will conclude by saying that in the 1970s I lived in England for a full calender year and was always struck by how poorly-educated rank-and-file Brits were. 

I did not have this feeling anywhere else in Europe. But it shouted out to me in England.
