Because you are furiously fixated on relatively small issues like Jeffrey Epstein and the alleged crimes of Hillary Clinton, it is your intention -- even though you may not realize it -- to advance the political fortunes of Donald Trump and "The Far Right."

"How can that be?" you protest.

There are two ways of lying, as there are two ways of deceiving customers. If the scale registers 15 ounces, you can say: "It's a pound." The bottom line is about "perspective and proportion" and the application of mundane standards of Truth like "the admissibility of evidence in court."  

I will also use this letter as a preliminary attempt to describe my growing sense that --  abominable as Epstein was -- the nation is investing far too much time, energy and attention on a few dozen celebrity pedophiles and the girls they abused. 

Against this backdrop, it is surpassingly strange that there has never been ANY significant attention given to the needless deaths of a "million" Iraqis (and thousands of Americans) during Bush-Cheney's thoroughly bogus Iraq War - not to mention millions more Iraqis who were permanently injured or otherwise scarred for life. 

But the horror doesn't end there.

Among the millions of Iraqi lives destroyed or degraded by Bush-Cheney -- every single one of those lives trashed for no good reason -- I make the low-ball estimate that tens of thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) of destitute Iraqi girls -- just to survive -- ended up prostituting themselves to homegrown parasites like Epstein. 

How many Americans who currently take umbrage at Jeffrey Epstein were ardent supporters of Bush-Cheney's "Whimsy War," a war that caused immeasurable suffering, death and prostitution, simultaneously reducing to rubble an entire country that had NO involvement in 9/11, the substantive casus belli?

I will be sure to update this post if just one right-winger raises her hand and says: "Yes, that's exactly what I did! I supported the Iraq War even though the rationale for that war has proven to be deliberate deception by Bush, Cheny and Secretary of State Colin Powell who admits that his overloads played him for a fool who would mouthe the bullshit Party Line."

And so we Americans - sitting in our pleasure domes, remote control in hand - do what we always do: we ignore the massive amount of deadly violence built into our culture while salivating over ringside seats at televised tales of sordid sexuality.

We have all been seduced by our prurient interest. 

We are all voyeurs. 

And we will spend the next year with our heads up Epstein's ass while Bush and Cheney -- war criminals who deserve their own Nuremberg Trial -- kick back in their "homes on the range, where seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day."

If we wanted to stare down the real sex abuse beast, we -- as a people -- would rise up, "pitchforks in hand," and replace our ruthless economic and political norms, "standards" that enforce widespread "survival-prostitution" right here in "The United States of Barbaria."

And so, we use the relative triviality of Epstein -- abominable as he was -- to avoid The Central Fact that we Americans like war and violence.
