Tucker Carlson: "Colleges Barely Teach"

Dear E,

The price of everything goes up. That's a given.

It is specious to pretend that the self-evident truth of inflation is Tucker Carlson's intent.

At bedrock Carlson intends to say what he says in his opening line: "Colleges barely teach."

But colleges do teach - and most of them teach very well.

Lamentably (tragically?), America's "right wing" is heavily invested in disparaging "college education," in large part to double down on the credal belief that unsubstantiated "opinion" is just as valid as corrobable truth. Once they accomplish this goal, "alternative facts," conspiracy theories and Devious Donald's dimwitted assertions and routine self-contradition become The Norm.

Furthermore, Trump has taken it upon himself to impugn epistemology itself by pretending that real discoveries and revelations made by intellectuals-and-academics are nothing more than "fake news."

How convenient!

Those who disagree with the findings of intellectual rigor and the scientific method, simply discard it, often with bogus reference to conspiratorial thinking, unsubstantiated rumor and ideologically-driven innuendo.

Devious Donald recalls Pilate's cynicism:

Jesus said: "The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
“What is truth?” retorted Pilate... then washed his hands, turning Jesus over to the mob.

There is no "one size fits all" panacea to life's problems - if only because life is intrinsically problematic.

But generally speaking, college-educated people contribute more to The General Welfare and The Common Good (which conservatives increasingly construe as "socialism") than "the uneducated" who often fall prostrate at the feet of plutocrats like Trump because they don't know any better. They don't know enough history to realize what nascent fascism looks like. Trump's followers never mastered enough intellectual rigor to know they have been conditioned to applaud their own oppression and that The Big Lie sound bites that coaxed them onto perdition's path are frequently the same sound bites they absorbed in Middle School.

It is not true that the cost of college is increasing with every year?
