When many absolutists then argue that "God's transcendant will" obliges them to over-ride "the will of the people," they appeal to a "proposition" - i.e., God - whose existence can not be proven, a proposition that may be appropriate (and even admirable) in the life of "believers," but since the proposition is not based on "knowledge" it is a political crime - certainly in democratic polities - to impose the propositions of personal faith on others.
