Housing The Homeless: Catholic Church Efforts In The San Francisco Bay Area

Dear Tig,

Is this one of the churches you sometimes attend?

The Catholic Church Where The Homeless Are Welcome To Sleep In The Pews

Back in the 1970s, when I was a member of the Oakland Cathedral Parish (St. Francis de Sales), we used the multi-purpose Community Center and kitchen to shelter homeless people and provide them a hot dinner.

Then, after I moved to Nicaragua (and subsequently to North Carolina) the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake which killed and seriously injured a lot of people (especially on Oakland's downtown freeway) so damaged the cathedral that it had to be torn down. It was the Bay Area's single most costly "ruin." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Saint_Francis_de_Sales_(Oakland,_California)

As I remember the tale, Mary J. Canning, without whose generosity the cathedral would not have been built, made her money as an extremely frugal (immigrant) domestic worker (and/or boarding house operator) who parlayed her savings into a small fortune.

This "telling" may contain significant inaccuracies but it is  waaaayyyyy more faithful to Truth than Trump's birtherism and conspiracy theories propegated by The Deplorable One's favorite snake oil salesman Alex Jones and his sub-clinically paranoid devotees.

Why am I not surprised that tens of millions of Good Christians are unfazed by His Satanic Majesty's whoremongering, reality TV manipulation and wide-spectrum assault on respectable epistemology.

Trump is The Deep State.

And those who see it elsewhere are The Asleep State.

Love,

Alan
