The Ryan-Trump Divide

The election is about more than the GOP presidential nominee.


Excerpt: For Mr. Trump—and Mr. Gingrich when he was Speaker—politics is a series of transactions with winners and losers. The substance matters less than the art of the deal and appearing to come out on top. The policies matter less than “winning.” And sure enough, within 48 hours of becoming the presumptive nominee, Mr. Trump reversed himself on the minimum wage and self-financing his campaign. He also suggested he was “not necessarily a huge fan” of some of the details in his own tax plan, which he told us in November he had written himself.
