Mormon Founder: "I Will Make My Enemies One Gore Of Blood From Rockies To The Atlantic"

According to the traditional creeds of Christianity,
"Mormonism Is Not A Christian Religion And Founding Prophet Joseph Smith Was A Sex Pervert"

Alan: I grew up 20 miles from Hill Cumorah, a nondescript land-form which Joseph Smith declared the site of a great battle whose outcome was foundational to The Church of Latter Day Saintshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumorah

Some people think I have a "bone to pick" with Mormonism.

I do.

I am convinced Smith was a scam artist who, corrupted by power, became a sexual "pervert" who imposed himself on women through the perceived loftiness of his ecclesial position.

But even more important than my conviction of Smith's fraud is how clearly "the prophet" reveals humankind's implacable need for a "strong-man-alpha-dog" who not only knows The Truth but can direct common folk to "salvation" by telling them what to do, even if "the directions" are outrageous. ("The Assurance of Salvation" is even more important than the reality of salvation itself although this is not the place for that discussion. If you wish to pursue the matter, google "salvation assurance.")

I also recognize that, in the absence of widespread educational process which teaches people 1.) how to think; 2.) how to conduct epistemologically sound research; and 3.) how to contextualize "findings" through a certain threshold-mastery of intellectual rigor, it may be better for "the blind" to submit themselves to guidance by revered authorities.

Not to every putative authority.

But perhaps to some.

Un-enlightened by love that manifests as non-discriminatory service to others -- submission to relatively innocuous forms of authority may be preferable to "the loose cannon chaos" of unformed minds and undisciplined spirits.

Depends on if you believe Thomas Marsh's affidavit. Orson Hyde said his affidavit was true, though he regretted this later. There could be merit to the claim. There is also this account:

Soon after the dissenters were driven away from Caldwell county, I was in Far-West, in Corill’s [Corrill's] store, perhaps the last of June last, and heard Joseph Smith, jun., say, that he believed Mahomet was an inspired man, and had done a great deal of good, and that he intended to take the same course Mahomet did; that if the people would let him alone, he would, after a while, die a natural death; but if they did not, he would make it one gore of blood from the Rocky Mountains to the State of Maine. (Testimony of George Walter, in James H. Hunt, Mormonism: Embracing the Origin, Rise and Progress of the Sect, with an Examination of the Book of Mormon)

Who knows. Joseph very well could have said such a thing. Every knee shall bow eventually. In reality, you could say it's Mormonism or the Fire. Everyone will have to embrace it eventually. Those that don't embrace a portion of its principles sufficiently will be burned at his coming.
