"Three Things To Know About Helping People," By Frog Hospital Publisher, Fred Owens

Dear Fred,

Thanks for your email.

Although I am not a very virtuous person -- and have great difficulty with "breathe-from-the-belly forgiveness" -- it is clear, as you suggest, that we "must" do "the right thing" because the way we treat others is, ultimately, the way we treat ourselves.

It would not surprise me if the way we treat the most despicable is, ultimately, the way we treat ourselves.

Dorothy Day: “I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.”

Virtue is its own reward.

And vice -- with retribution/retaliation featured prominently in the satanic hierarchy -- is its own punishment.

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

"It is true that there is a thing crudely called charity, which means charity to the deserving poor; but charity to the deserving is not charity at all, but justice.
It is the undeserving who require it, and the ideal either does not exist at all, or exists wholly for them."

1. They don't deserve any help. It's their own damn fault.
2.  They will not be grateful or appreciate what you have done.
3.  The world will still be a big nasty mess of cruelty and greed.

In other words, it's a complete waste of time. But do it anyway.

So, the people of Syria have destroyed their own country and they don't deserve any help.

And if you do help them they will not be grateful or appreciate what you have done.

And the world will still be a big stinking mess of violence and greed.

But help them anyway.
