I do not know how fluctuation between "gay" and "straight" works.
I do know that I experienced a unique circumstance in Cali, Colombia (1969) when suddenly I was prepared to engage homosexual relationship with an Olympic pole vaulter.

During the last year, I've been contemplating the role "curves" play in sexual excitement - at least from a heterosexual male's point of view.
"Pleasing curves" are "all it takes" and we males are straightaway pumped, eager to huff and grunt. The attraction is dumbfoundingly zoological; even more so when we consider rutting intellectually and discover that - for the human male at least - sexual excitement distills to an exercise in geometry.
But the sexual role played by "curves" gets even "weirder" because any woman who "possesses" exciting curves lives her own life with no sense of sexual excitement attached to the shape of her own body. (Sure, they can work themselves into masturbatory fervor but that's not my point.)
To a woman, pondering her body is of less interest than pondering her eyebrows.

Sure, when women discover that their curves are pleasing to males, many will subsequently display their bodies as if they themselves feel "the heat."
But, at bottom, it's charade. Come on. Allure. The equivalent of Winnie the Pooh going ga ga over a honey pot - except that the honey pot makes a certain amount of sense.
I once saw a photograph of a voluptuous porn queen sitting naked in her home office, working at her computer.
Despite the woman's evident allure (at least from my own turgid vantage), she herself was totally ho-hum, solely focused on getting business done.

In Spanish, the word "ilusion" is uniquely linked to women --- to such an extent that I have seen Latin American billboards proclaim: "La mujer es la ilusion!"
I'm quite sure women realize the illusoriness of sexual attraction - at least more so than men.

PS Is it my "limited sample" or do women "take up" with other women (once kids are grown and gone) much more readily than men "take up" with other men? There is nothing "wrong" with this. I point it out because I believe women live much more "morphically" than men along the gay-straight continuum. It may even be that women are programmed to prefer their own "gender," but are genetically obligated - at least in their "middle years" - to create "the illusion" of heterosexual intensity to insure survival of the species.
