Daily Show host Jon Stewart reached his wit’s end on Tuesday with Republican hemming and hawing regarding immigration reform. The last straw? House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) refusing to pass a law in order to keep President Barack Obama from getting credit for it.

“That makes no sense,” Stewart exclaimed. “We have an urgent issue in this country that strikes at the heart of who we are as a people that we must solve. But we can’t, because the only way to keep the president enforcing our current disastrous immigration law is to talk about but not deliver a better one.”

Boehner’s response came to Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) idea that the GOP and Democrats team up to provide a law that would not take effect until 2017, when Obama will be out of office.“This is the kind of passive-aggressive democracy our founders intended,” Stewart said.

Stewart was frustrated enough to float the idea of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) winning the presidency in 2016.

“Now there’s a guy who knows how to clog a border,” Stewart said.

Stewart also rebuked Bohener’s argument that Republicans couldn’t trust Obama on the issue.

“For the Republican caucus to suggest that they will not entertain immigration reform because they do not trust this president to enforce the laws of the land is perhaps the greatest projection in the history of psychology,” he said.
