Sedevacantism

Cardinal Giuseppe Siri with alighting pigeon

Alan: Below is a hyperlinked collection of essays revealing the phenomenon of sedevacantism and the radically reactionary "Catholic" society that surrounds and informs it.

Essentially, contemporary "sedevacantism" is a movement within "Traditionalist Catholicism" which asserts that all popes elected since 1958 are impostors.

Prompted by Pope Francis' preference for the gospel message over ecclesiastical forms, sedevacantism is undergoing a revival.

See "Pope Francis Links" at http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2013/11/pope-francis-links.html

To learn more about sedevacantism, see Wikipedia's eponymous article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedevacantism

To learn more about "Traditionalist Catholicism" see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditionalist_Catholicism

One "particular" article that exposes the cornerstone of the "whole" is "The Popes and the Dove" by Gary Giuffré.   http://www.realnews247.com/The_Popes_and_The_Dove.pdf

After reading (or scanning) "Popes and Dove," I encourage you to read Wikipedia's entry on Cardinal Giuseppe Siri, the orthodox Catholic hierarch on whom sedevacantists pin much of their hope. Pay close attention to the section entitled "Conclave Speculation."

Ironically, Cardinal Siri is a leader who does not believe in his own movement.

Contemporary sedevacantists clasp at straws so eagerly that they find themselves in the unwitting position of assuming "there's a there there" when there isn't.

Because sedevantists are absolutists in rebellion against (their perception of) Catholic absolutism, they can no longer question the mistaken premise that undergirds their protest. Having rebelled once against absolute authority, their psychological structure prevents them from questioning absolute authority a second time. And so they settle into personal "apostasy" while projecting apostasy onto "the other."
