Modern "Conservatism's" Core Philosophical Error: Treating Exceptions As New Rules

Dear John,

Thanks for sending "Rules are Rules."

The rule about not operating trains with defective part is a good rule.

It is also true that, sometimes -- under exceptional circumstances -- even good rules do not apply.

"The Worst Rule" is to find "exceptions to rules" and then turn these exceptions into New Rules.

Contemporary "conservatism's" compulsion to glorify exceptions -- morphing them into New Rules -- is the chief philosophical error on the right side of the aisle.

Take, for example, the four Americans who were killed in the Benghazi embassy attack.

The carnage was horrendous and an exception to Obama and Hillary's otherwise safe management of American embassies and consulates.

Now...

Compare Benghazi with Reagan's abject cowardice in Beirut... After 243 (two hundred and forty three) marines were killed by a terrorist attack on their Beirut barracks, Saint Ronald tucked his tail between his legs and fled the scene of the crime, simpering.  http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2012/10/cover-letter-to-beirut-bombing-mass.html

Now consider the 13 (thirteen) "Benghazis" that occurred on Bush's watch without a single peep from Fox Newshttp://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2013/08/13-benghazis-that-occurred-on-bushs.html

Tell me.

Will you forward this email to everyone who was copied on the email you sent me?

If not, why not?

Pax vobiscum

Alan

PS Personally, I am pleased that the government is about to take a more active role in the nation's healthcare, putting an end to pre-existing conditions, denial of service and keeping rates so high that 40 million Americans have been locked out. In my view, the government did a good job with Medicare and, as I see it, they'll do an even better job with Obamacare... if America's conservative traitors do not sabotage "the law of the land." http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2013/08/inside-obamacare-resistance.html Private sector did a suckhole job protecting the nation's health just as the private sector has done a suckhole job protecting workers' pensions. Rules Are Rules!

The Good news: It was a normal day in Sharon Springs, Kansas, when a Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train for the long trek to Salina.

The Bad news: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted, letting a metal support drop down and grind on the rail, creating white hot molten metal droppings spewing down to the rail.

The Good news: A very alert crew noticed smoke about halfway back in the train and immediately stopped the train in compliance with Governmental Regulations.

The Bad news:
The train stopped with the hot wheel over a wooden bridge with creosote ties and trusses.  When the crew tried to explain to higher-ups they needed to move the train, they were instructed not to move the train because Federal Regulations prohibit moving the train when a part is defective.

Well okee-dokey then, and the pictures tell the rest.

As always the Government knows what is best for us.

REMEMBER, RULES ARE RULES!

Don't ever let common sense get in the way
of a Government Regulation.

And now they decide your health care!!!
