Now, nearly 20 years later -- 25 if we count Desert Storm -- not only has Uncle Sam lost the war -- to Iran!?! -- he can't even retreat from the battlefield.

Know this.

There are no longer "states" that can be beaten into surrender.

Rather, there are resistance movements that "live in country," movements with trans-generational "staying power." 

At most, Uncle Sam can occupy a nation for a generation: then his popular mandate disappears... or "the bank is broken."

I am reminded of Marshall McLuhan's observation: "To the spoils belongs the victor."

This epochal transposition of winner into loser is "something new under the sun."

This "new world order" can be ignored only at grave peril.
