Bill Maher Interviews Steve Bannon
Alan: The trouble with populism is that the moment populist movements are born, uninformed, uneducated people (who comprise every populist base) start warming up to right‐wing demagogues.
This penchant for demagogery is "baked in the cake" because uninformed, uneducated people lack the intellectual development to engage (or even welcome) well‐educated, intellectually‐developed people, and very early on in every populist uprising, populists realize that it's the demagogues and goombahs who talk like they do.
Bad‐a‐bing. Bad‐a‐ba. Identity politics.
And so, populists ‐ faster than you can say William Cobbett! ‐ come to despise (and often hate) anyone who is evidently educated. http://www.gkc.org.uk/gkc/books/William_Cobbett.pdf

To be impolite (but also precisely accurate), populist dumb fucks do their best to trash the very people who understand both history and democratic process well enough to bring their undeveloped, atavistic selves, kicking and screaming, out of their neo‐neanderthal silos.
