Greetings,

There are two new songs in the following compilation - "Susie Q" and "Give Me One Reason" (with new band member Alex Griffin singing the latter).

Although there is brilliant guitar work throughout, I draw your attention to stellar solos on "Sunshine of Your Love" and "I'm A Man."

Also, Shooter Jennings' "4th of July" (a great song in my view) is starting to take shape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_tS3NcdFT0

We also do a pretty good job on Canned Heat's "Let's Work Together," a song we play infrequently but have "brought out of mothballs" for this Friday's concert at "Nash Street Tavern" in Hillsborough's west end, a few doors down from Hillsborough BBQ Company

Hope to see you at the tavern this Friday! https://www.facebook.com/NashStreetTavern/

And although I'll be in Mexico from March 12th through early April, "19" debuts at Hot Tin Roof on Friday, March 16th. http://www.hottinroofbar.com/

"Susie Q"
(This is "19's" first "take" on Dale Hawkins 1957 rockabilly song.)
"Sunshine Of Your Love"
(There is GREAT guitar work starting at the 5:23 mark.)

"Lodi"

"Into The Great Wide Open"

"4th Of July"
(I think this is a great song and, happily, it's starting to gel.)

"I'm A Man"
(This recording doesn't cook until the 2 minute mark. And then it comes to a rolling boil.)

"Landslide"
(with Mark on mandolin and John on banjo)

"Valery"

"Don't Pass Me By"
("I'm not comfortable trying to sing this song with a "Jamaican accent" but I'm confident something good will come of it.)

Paz contigo

Alan

PS On the same YouTube page as Shooter's "4th of July" is a link to Tom Russell's extraordinary song "Stealing Electricity" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OciCzKgGY0  And if you don't know Russell's prescient "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall?" written in 2008, check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZkAoosVLkA Later this year, when "19" records its first album of self-composed songs, I'm going to have the guys back me up on "Wall." (Here's NPR's report on Russell's "Wall." https://www.npr.org/2008/09/07/94325378/tom-russell-whos-gonna-build-your-wall)

Rehearsal Recordings, January 27th, 2018

Yesterday's rehearsal was quite productive.

In particular, I draw your attention to "Sunshine Of My Love." In this rendition, the band takes its lead from Carlos Santana's version of the Cream classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH3WcfpRgkQ

"Lodi" is another song nearly ready for public performance. (We play at "Nash Street Tavern" on Friday, March 9th. https://www.facebook.com/NashStreetTavern/)

Also at yesterday's rehearsal, Gilly and Alex Griffin -- for the first time -- divided "If I Didn't Know Better" into its original "gender-separated" parts. Very effective.

In general, Gilly's vocals are getting even stronger, all of her leads rock-solid.

I would also point out that the guitar work on "You Make Loving Fun," "Spit Of Love" and "Sunshine" is extraordinary.

And finally, note that John Newnam's percussion on "Sunshine" is not only superb musically but a tour de force of endurance. I was hard-pressed to "keep it together" with a half-speed cowbell beat while John, playing twice as fast, was as steady as an electronic clock.

"Lodi"

"House Of The Rising Son"

"Sunshine Of My Love"
Take 2

"Constant Craving"

"Take Me To The River"

"If I Didn't Know Better"
"Sunshine Of My Love"
Take 1

Pax,

Alan

Greetings,

Here are four new songs from Sunday's rehearsal (April 8, 2018).

Alex Griffin's powerful leadership on "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is the result of "growing up" with the song and belting it out "every day" months-on-end.

I almost didn't include the following first take of "Join Together With The Band" since it is so ill-prepared and was chosen as a "sing along" to involve audiences "behind" 19's own chorus which was non-existent on this recording.

In the end, I decided to include it as a "glimpse" of "things to come."

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
(The complete "take" starts at the 5:00 minute mark.)

"Squeeze Box"

"Somebody To Love"

"Join Together With The Band"
