Alan: The following article is well written but I disagree with its premise. One of the reasons college is not a waste of time is because it's a place where a lot of time is "wasted."
Through this waste of time, college students learn how to contemplate the crucial importance of alternatives to "utilitarianism."
Or at least have a chance.
The most important function of a good Liberal Arts education is that it innoculates us against productivity for its own sake, and even more importantly, against hyper-productivity, the most "closeted" of all planet killers.
