Every civilized nation can replicate Sweden's experience. But the United States prefers belligerence, meddling and punishment of the poor to justify the upper class conviction that only they can -- and should -- determine who is worthy.

"The Hard, Central Truth Of Contemporary Conservatism"

We Know What To Do.
But Politicians Don't Know How To Get Elected If They Do It

Is Ortega y Gasset The World's Most Important Modern Philosopher? (Most Discerning Prophet?)

Alan:

I know a fellow who grew up in Joe Biden's neighborhood and for years served on Biden's senatorial staff.

A decade ago, "Daniel" married a Swede and moved to Sweden where he now lives in blissful contentment.

He is so happy with life in Sweden that he did not even consider an open offer to occupy the West Wing as a Biden advisor.

Over a recent Christmas visit, Daniel confided: "I cannot tell you what a relief it's been to get the weight of American financial pressure off my chest. Here in Sweden I know that if I die today, my children will -- forevermore -- be educated through graduate school, that they will always have great healthcare, a roof over their head and nutritious food on their plate."

Daniel tells me there is a common phrase in Swedish which means "making a home for everyone" and that Swedes are delighted that everyone has a home.

Perhaps Daniel's most surprising observation is this: "Although taxes and prices are high, so many expenses are covered by the state that my money seems to go farther in Sweden than it did in the United States." (With open market insurance costing $15-20K for an American family of four, no wonder Daniel's money goes farther in Sweden.
