Alan: I have long held that women do far more housework than necessary, a trait I believe is rooted in homo sapiens' distant genetic past when -- during those epochs prior to soap, detergent and antibiotics -- women who did the most clearning conferred survival advantage on their offspring.
Today I see this leftover focus on continual cleaning as the female equivalent of men's inordinate fixation on violence, a leftover trait from those same bygone epochs when aggressive use of "upper body strength" conferred survival advantage on one's offspring.
It is time for both men and women to "back off" their obsolete genetic obsessions.

I will also note that when I finished reading the following article on cleanliness and nagging, a commercial "crawled" across the screen announcing: "12 Shoes Women Must Have."
I am not sure what survival advantage adheres to a surfeit of shoes but it is another obsessive female behavior that has always struck me as bizarre, like men who collect dozens of guns.
