Correspondence with "The Thinking Housewife" About Abortion & Her Support For Donald Trump

Alan: Here is recent correspondence with Ms. Laura Wood who blogs as "The Thinking Housewife."
http://www.thinkinghousewife.com/wp/

The following sequence starts with Ms. Wood's email, followed by my reply.

Alan,

I think I gave my reasons. You don't agree, but I did explain myself.

I don't like to post things with pornographic pictures. Also, you seem to think I am a raving Republican. I don't identify with the Republican Party. It's just not important to me. So you're off base in you point about identity.

And, I never said Jesus endorses Donald Trump!!

I don't at all believe that the number of abortions drop when abortion is widely available. How could statistics have been available for an underground, illegal practice?

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAFE ABORTION.

Laura

Dear Laura,

I realize you do not identify with The Republican Party and I understand how your self-identification as a faithful Catholic "sets you apart" from "the world."

But it is questionable whether an individual can offer such a full-throated endorsement of Trump as yours and still remain "apart."

At some point substantive affiliation with a person or a "cause" becomes a de facto truth if not a de jure one.

In the end, "we are known by the company we keep."

"Why You Should Vote For Trump"
The Thinking Housewife

If Jesus were here right now, I believe he would counsel his disciples (as he did in Matthew 10:14) that if anyone will not listen to your Good News, "shake the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town."

Just walk away.

I see nothing in the spoken words of Jesus (or in the narrative content of the four canonical gospels) that even hints at the advisability of supporting a "man" like Trump.

The Gospels With The Words Of Jesus In Red

Everything Jesus And The Apostles Had To Say About "The Rich" And "The Poor"

"The Kingdom of God is not of this world" and "we cannot serve both God and Mammon for if we love the latter, we will despise the former."

Yes, Hillary is a wealthy woman.

But Donald LOVES wealth.

He actually asserts (as do many Gold Calf "Christians") that ungodly gobs of money are salvific.

It is clear that you do not see yourself as a Republican.

But please allow me a moment to explain the intersection of technicality and substance a junction that is the flip side of St. Paul's decisive distinction between The Law and The Spirit.

About 60% of Americans will vote in this year's election.

Of those, more than half do not "pay attention" until the end of the GOP and Democratic National Conventions in late summer.

And of that "half" most are eager to patch together political views constituted by the same witless sound bites that impressed them in middle school.

Furthermore, Trump's percentage of the electorate has a demonstrated "ceiling" of about 40%.

If we set aside "the deplorables" --- including (but by no means limited to) bona fide misogynists, in-your-face racists, "bomb them til the sand glows" lunatics, and Trump supporters who admire Melania BECAUSE she is a porn queen --- the number of intelligent Trump supporters is not very great.

We can debate that number but, after giving benefit-of-the-doubt, I venture the total number of cerebrate Trump supporters comprises about half his nominal supporters, leaving behind a pool of "sane people" who make up a mere 20% of the electorate.

In the following post, you can learn the full range of opinions about Donald as set forth by this year's GOP presidential candidates.

Their views -- including the view of Mitt Romney, the morally upstanding Republican you supported last election -- not only disapprove of Trump but damn him.

Marco Rubio considers Trump a nefarious felon.

And Ted Cruz -- the most traditional Christian in this year's GOP field -- is convinced that Donald is a pathological liar... and worse!

Republican Presidential Candidates Lacerating Views Of Donald Trump

Against this backdrop, the views you express in "Why You Should Vote For Trump" - http://www.thinkinghousewife.com/wp/2016/09/why-you-should-vote-for-trump/ - place you in rarefied "Republican company" and make you philosophical bedfellows with America's most reprehensible politician whose apparent "conversion" on a number of conservative talking points only makes your gullibility that much more eyepopping.

No, you are not a Republican.

But if it quacks like a duck...

I will again mention that it is impossible for you and your followers to understand the pervasive vility of His Lowness if you refuse to look squarely at him and his third wife who, when wrinkled, will be "traded in" for a newer "model." (Wanna bet?)

Some of that evidence is photographic, and - as happens in court when jurors pass informed judgment - they must look at ALL the evidence, including harsh photographs.

Inter-relatedly, it is important to understand the damage you do to Christianity by antinomian decision-making -- dare I say "jesuitical" decision-making -- whose only apparent purpose is to justify your support for The Prince of Darkness.

Although the following video contains language you will find offensive, it is essential that you understand Maher's argument. (As for Maher's foul language, do not think that when Jesus gathered around "wine-bibbling tables" with prostitutes and other unsavories that they "cleaned up" their language and "covered their cleavage." "Jesus: Festive Tippler And Friend Of Whores, Publicans, Tax Collectors And Sundry Sinners" http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2016/03/jesus-festive-wine-bibber-and-friend-of.html)

"Trump's commandments are like the regular commandments with LOL at the end.
Adultery? Check.
Stealing? Check.
Bearing false witness? Check.
Cursing? Check.
Covetousness? Check"

I should mention that I do not allege that you say "Jesus supports Trump."

Rather, I point out the syllogistic connections and other behavioral "resonances" that link you -- as a proselytizing Christian -- to this vile man.

Like it or not, you are simultaneously a "vicar of Christ" and a supporter of Trump.

Do the math.

You are right.

"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAFE ABORTION."

But by the same token there is no SAFE anything.

We seldom consider that our least safe daily behavior -- embarked blithely -- is to get behind the wheel of a car. (What, pray tell, is the morality of risking traffic fatality or injury when we could "stay at home," or duplicate the driving culture of Europe where traffic fatalities per mile traveled are half what they are in the States, or wholeheartedly promote mass transportation which has a far lower incidence of morbidity and mortality than moving about in private vehicles?)

In any event, medically-mediated abortion is immeasurably safer than a coat hanger which is the abortion tool thousands of foolish teenage girls WILL use in the absence of "safe" abortion.

And, "'til Kingdom come" it is not a matter of "if." It is a matter of "when."

(An Aside... I think much opposition to abortion is rooted in the relative ease with which one can appropriate this issue, and appropriate it with such passion that the intensity of "the cause" preempts other moral issues that require much more work, not to mention moving out of one's comfort zone and getting one's hands dirty.)

It is also a fact that the proscription of "safe" abortion creates a cultural milieu in which many more abortions take place - per capita -- than in cultures where "safe" abortion is readily available.

Thinking Housewife: Supporting Trump Makes You Bedfellows With Pro-Choice Advocates

You ask, "How could statistics have been available for an underground, illegal practice?"

Please recall that Roe v. Wade was not enacted until 1973.

In 1971, I was a 25 year old graduate student in Public Health at the University of Cincinnati and knew from personal experience that polling was taking place on every issue of social significance.

Furthermore, if the argument made by 2nd Amendment supporters that American gun-owners under-report gun ownership because they feel "uncomfortable" confiding such information to a pollster, it is likely that "abortion polling" prior to 1973 also under-reported the number of abortions.

As you know, statistics is -- by intrinsic admission -- an inexact science.

Not only is vilification of Hillary as a "baby killer" inaccurate, it is also unproven -- oddly in a culture that supposedly values the "presumption of innocence until proven guilty" -- that Hillary is a "crook" or "about to be indicted" even though Trump still insists she will be indicted despite FBI Director Comey clear statement to the contrary.

I would bet my bottom dollar that "in the eyes of God" Trump is a worse person than Hillary.

I encourage you not to be seduced by a thrice-divorced, philandering Don Juan who is consummately adept at "chatting up The Ladies."

Yes, Hillary has baggage but it is NOTHING like the freight train Trump shoulders.

By EVERY Measure, Trump's "Baggage" Is Incomparably More Voluminous Than Hillary's
