Alan: Some critics argue that The Lord of the Ring Trilogy is an allegory for returning nuclear power to The Crack of Doom. Tolkien denied any such interpretation. But it is a fact that he wrote the trilogy when humankind first became aware it had discovered a power beyond its control.
