For the second time this month, we have occasion to say the following: If this guy is a model of gun safety, we'd hate to be around the reckless ones.

Just a couple weeks after a firearm safety teacher accidentally fired a gun in a Stillwater school just before teaching class, an NRA-certified instructor from rural Stockman, Minnesota ended up in the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the hand while he was jacking around with his gun.
According to the Winona Daily News, Fred Petersen, 66, was showing his wife a .38 Special handgun last Thursday morning when she asked him whether the trigger could be pulled while the gun remained holstered.
Petersen made the regrettable choice to try and answer his wife's question with a demonstration.
The Daily News, citing comments from Winona County Sheriff Dave Brands, reports, "Petersen triggered the action while holding the gun and holster in his left hand, accidentally firing a shot." The bullet hit his finger and he needed surgery to repair damage to a bone.
Reached for comment by the Daily News, Petersen said: "The gun was pointed in a safe direction, but my finger was not in a good spot."
That's one way of looking at it.
