With surprising regularity, contemporary "conservatives" -- at least among the rank-and-file -- are suspicious of Facts and often antagonistic to intellectually-rigorous Truth.
These "true believers" prefer the premise that "pure principles" (unsullied by "facts") will not only "win the day" but will win it in "God's Own Way."

All "the faithful" need to rest "in the bosom of Abraham" is to "sign off" on "Godly Principles," or "The Invisible Hand Of The Marketplace," or "Divine Intervention By God Himself," and they will surely attain the divinely-ordained consummation they so desire.
There is virtually no need for "true believers" to take action - certainly not collective, political action... and God forbid it be globally-coordinated political action!
In fact, thoughtful, concerted, research-based action (be it individual or political) is an affront to God Himself whose salvific covenant with humankind requires "blind faith" in exchange for the ineffable comfort of "salvation assurance."
That is the deal.
That is conservatism's Mephistophelean bargain.
And so, among my conservative readers, not one in a thousand will have the intellectual integrity to hear Maddow's meticulous presentation from start-to-finish.
Her disquisition contains too many facts.
Too many details.
Too much information.
Indeed, too much truth.
Indeed, too much truth.
And worst of all, a thorough, attentive "hearing" might bring about the kind of understanding that causes loss of "salvation assurance" which, after all, is why they became blind believers in the first place.
