Alan: With few exceptions, "Know-Nothing Nativists" despise people of color.

There was even a time when Nativist Americans promoted the idea that Italians were black for no other reason than to denigrate them - in the core etymological sense of the word.  

I grew up with Italian Americans.

I count a disproportionate number of Italian-Americans among my closest friends. 

I married an Italian-American.

I treasure every minute spent in Italy.

And I would love to have a glass of vino rosso with Nancy Pelosi. 

Here is how America's real haters operate - and continue to operate -- denigrating immigrants and resident minorities, abetted in their small-minded spite and malice by "nationalist" (read "nativist") Donald Trump.

The recurrent theme of White Nationalism, Know-Nothing Nativism and White Supremacism is that adherents of these three ideologies are, with vanishingly few exceptions, ever ready to whoop someone's ass, preferably a person of color.
