How are we to interpret the bald-faced lie that many Americans, like Alex, jammed into Ginsburg's mouth?
Have they no shame?
And what are we to make of all the people who "fall" for such Barnum hucksterism? Remarkably, we have it on Trump's own "authority" that global warming is a "Chinese hoax to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." (It seems that "fake newsers" are not only bent on deceiving others but themselves as well.)
Laid waste by Trump's colossal capacity for fatuous falsification and malevolent misrepresentation, American political discourse is no longer about Truth and Reason.
Despicable Donald closed that door. Slammed it shut.
Trump's unfailing fondness for falsehood calls to mind Denis de Rougement's insight: "There are two ways of lying, as there are two ways of deceiving customers. If the scale registers 15 ounces, you can say: 'It's a pound.' Your lie will remain relative to an invariable measure of the true. If customers check it, they can see that they are being robbed, and you know by how much you are robbing them: a truth remains as a judge between you. But if the demon induces you to tamper with the scale itself, it is the criterion of the true which is denatured, there is no longer any possible control. And little by little you will forget that you are cheating."
American "conservatives" have denatured truth.
And they have forgotten the habitual cheating that has made them unconscious of their moral rot.
In this degenerate state of self-induced stupefaction, they were enthralled by malicious destruction and came to enjoy the deliberate propagation of falsehood that destroys behaviors-and-institutions whose lifeblood is truth.
For example, relentless allegations of "fake news" illustrate systematic trashing of the press, without which The Founding Fathers were in agreement: Despite its faults, the very survival of democracy dependson an unimpeded press.
Ceaseless mendacity - not only with others but with themselves - feeds conservatives' "inner troll."
Destructiveness itself (like the perverse pleasure of breaking windows in abandoned buildings ) becomes the consolation prize for ignoring the essential effort necessary for the determination of richly-contextualized truth.
The Hard, Central Truth Of Contemporary Conservatism

"All Of Brett Kavanaugh's Lies." (Maybe He Didn't Try To Rape Blasey Ford...)
http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2018/10/all-of-brett-kavanaughs-lies-maybe-he.htmlRoutinely, conservatives refuse to check Snopes (or any other reputable fact-checking organization) before they circulate nonsense, thus revealing rank-and-file gullibility and conservatives' passion for telling whole-cloth lies.
This growing inclination to tell whole-,cloth lies has been exacerbated by The Blinding Blizzard Of Bullshit devised by The Deplorable One who encourages such torrents of upchucked bilge that no amount of "after-the-fact correction" can undo the damage done.
Which is the point.
Trumpista "conservatives" delight in the fact that "bells cannot be un-rung."
For that very reason, they ring them.
"Sound the alarm!" and forevermore "conservatives" will remain alarmed.
Not surprisingly alarmism is a prime mover. In the runup to November's midterm elections, notice how Republicans have begun representing Democrats as "animals," "monsters" and "mobs." https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2018/05/21/trump-isnt-the-only-one-who-calls-opponents-animals-democrats-and-republicans-do-it-to-each-other/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.013e85dd3c59
These allegations of "animal-monster-mobs" are not true, but they are alarming.
And alarmism has been Job 1 since Willie Horton.
"Conservatives Scare More Easily Than Liberals"
Trump and Trumpistas are forever fearmongering because fear is powerfully motivational for frightened people, always prone to mistake another "dose of the disease" as the cure.
Plus, "conservatives" know they can lie faster than good people can fact-check.
Falsehood is their daily bread.
And finally "the light of truth" is anathema to their core political project of engendering benightedness and self-terrorization from sea to shining sea.
Republican presidential candidate, Pat Buchanan, the living American who has served longest as a White House senior staff adviser, observed: “The Republican philosophy might be summarized thus: To hell with principle; what matters is power, and that we have it, and that they do not.”
“Where the Right Went Wrong"
Try this Alex.
Try saying: "I was wrong. No Supreme Court judge promised to resign if Kavanaugh was nominated. What's more, now that I know how to avoid spreading pernicious, ideologically-
driven lies by checking with Snopes, Politifact, Media Bias/Fact Check or FactCheck.org, I solemnly swear to undertake responsible fact-checking for the rest of my life."
driven lies by checking with Snopes, Politifact, Media Bias/Fact Check or FactCheck.org, I solemnly swear to undertake responsible fact-checking for the rest of my life."
Now, dear reader, sit back and watch Alex's snowball attempt the crossing of Hell.
To be clear:
1.) Contemporary American "conservatism" is built on falsehood. (Yes, a broken clock is right twice a day...)
2.) Trump lies more easily than he metabolizes.
3.) The White House is the epicenter of Fake News.
4.) Contemporary "conservatives" have been bamboozled.
