Rudy, an Umbrian dog who accompanied my American friend Tig on her daily walks through the Italian countryside.
Dear Tig,
Great pic!
Concerning your desire to "share" a dog,...
Phone the local SPCA and find out if area "pounds" have "loaner programs."
If they don't, they might "pick up on" the idea.
My preliminary google search indicates that impounded dogs are not "loaned."
But the benefits of "loaner dogs" seem obvious.
Even if a loaner dog's life is not eventually spared, at least its life will be prolonged.
And while a "loaner dog" is living in a "foster home," it is possible that friends or relatives might "fall in love" with Fido and decide to keep "him."
Afterthought...
At any given moment, most adults know when their next prolonged "trip away" will take place, so that "pounds" might wisely develop "loaner programs" for a minimum time period of 3, 4, 5 or 6 months.
