Alan: Here is my email to Joshua Johnson's "1A" responding to his April 12th NPR program, "Are We Hardwired To Hate?" featuring Sally Kohn, author of "The Opposite Of Hate: A Field Guide To Repairing Our Humanity."
There is a key difference between liberal and conservative animosity.
Liberals can tolerate conservatives ideologues.
But many (if not most) conservative ideologues cannot tolerate liberals because failure to condemn/damn them threatens them with losing their religion-identity.
To remain faithful to their core beliefs, conservative ideologues must represent themselves as absolutely right, which in turn requires them to consider liberals absolutely wrong and therefore deserving of damnation.
In fact ideologically-driven conservatives (often self-proclaimed Christians) harbor "a sense of justice" -- that is intimately bound to their view of a punitive God -- and since they are made in the image of their God, they MUST advocate the damnation of "infidels."
