"Charging Port," An Extraordinary Computer (And Cellphone) Repair Shop In Durham, NC

Charging Port
(a new branch of Komputer Zone)

Three years ago, I was grocery shopping in Durham, North Carolina, when I popped into a nearby computer-and-cellphone repair shop.

Owner Tim Tanasov had recently hired a new technician named Luis Garcia and I was immediately struck by the friendliness, intelligence and good cheer of both men.

It was clear from my very first interaction that Tim and Luis understood the inner workings of computers, tablets and cellphones - right now to the most intricate circuitry.

Indeed, both men use microscopes and minuscule tools to navigate and mend mechanical and electronic malfunctions invisible to the naked eye.

Although micro-soldering is a speciality, Tim and Luis perform the entire range of computer and cellphone repair --- from broken screens to esoterica.

If there were an Olympiad for computer repair, Tim and Luis would be gold medalists.

Often I visit Komputer Zone just for the pleasure of chatting with such smart, amiable people.

Furthermore, thet have many replacement parts in stock and often as not will repair your cyber-device while you wait and look on. They also provide running commentary about their diagnosis and what they are doing to repair the problem.

Most remarkable of all is that their extraordinary knowledge and deft skill enable them to perform repairs quickly.

This swiftness - coupled with the fact that Tim and Luis are innately good, service-oriented people -- translates into repair prices that are often jaw-droppingly low.

Consider this...

My nephew Ian, who was living in Kentucky, broke the screen on his late-model laptop but the prices quoted by repair people in Louisville almost made him "chuck it" in favor of a new device.

When I learned of Ian's difficulty, I jotted down his computer's specifications and relayed them to Tim and Luis who installed a nearly-new screen for $118.00 -- parts and labor -- less than half what Ian was prepared to pay.

And now this Good News!

The first business day of 2018, Luis opened a branch location called "Charging Port" at 4201 University Drive two doors from Saladelia restaurant --- a few hundred yards south of 15-501, the main road connecting Chapel Hill and Durham.

You  -- and, through your recommendation, all of your friends -- will be delighted to discover the exceptional service and kindness that characterize Komputer Zone's new shop, "Charging Port."
