TRUMP JR. REPORTEDLY SAID HIS DAD WOULD OUTSOURCE “DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN POLICY” TO V.P.

The highly curious conversation was reported in a New York Times Magazine investigation into how Trump chose his vice president.
Over the past several days, John Kasich has been all over Cleveland. That is, everywhereexcept the Republican National Convention. The Ohio governor’s absence suggests that he, unlike the reluctant Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, has yet to fall in line behind the G.O.P. nominee, Donald Trump. The failed presidential candidate’s refusal to endorse the New York billionaire for president has left the Trump campaign scorned, and even prompted Paul Manafort to slam Kasich on Monday to reporters, calling him “petulant” and accusing him of “embarrassing his party in Ohio.” But despite the growing feud between the two parties, it was reportedly not that long ago that Trump wanted Kasich on his ticket.
A new report suggests that before the Donald tapped Indiana governor Mike Pence as his running mate, the real-estate mogul courted his former primary rival for the No. 2 job. In March, Kasich criticized Trump, saying he’s “really not prepared to be president,” and subsequently joined forces with Ted Cruz to launch a two-front attack on the brash billionaire before the duo ultimately took themselves out of the race. No matter to the Trump campaign: Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., reportedly asked if Kasich would be interested in being “the most powerful vice president in history,” according to The New York Times Magazine.
Most damning: Trump Jr. reportedly said the potential V.P. would be charged with foreign and domestic policy, while Trump would use his presidential prowess to focus solely on “Making America Great Again.” If true, the development all but confirms the persistent suspicion that Trump wants to be president without actually having to carry out the messy duties incumbent to being commander in chief.
On Twitter on Wednesday, Trump denied ever personally offering Kasich the position on his ticket.
Kasich previously likened a hypothetical pairing between the two to a bad business merger. “We’re like two companies, you know, we have a different vision, a different value system, and a different objective,” he said in an interview with Fox News’s America’s Newsroom in June when asked if he would support Trump.
