Alan: In Paul Ryan's RNC speech, he mentions Trump twice, once to say "I'll be on the podium with him" and on the second occasion he says: "You know what? None of this will happen under Hillary Clinton. Only with Donald Trump and Mike Pence do we have a chance at a better way."
Note that Ryan does not say "things will be better with Trump-Pence, only that there's a chance things will be better.
The old chestnut "damning with faint praise" comes to mind.
