Gun Cartoons (U.S. News & World Report)

"Always stand your ground kid. Don't even think winging him. Shoot to kill. The "sweet spot" is right between the eyes."

Alan: Once it is clear that "a line must be drawn somewhere," it is then proper that everyone argue where "the line" be drawn. Despite the contrary persistence of American barbarism, civilization is not an unregulated free-for-all. No one, for example, argues on behalf of the unregulated distribution of atomic weapons. Personally, I hold that "the line" should be drawn at the 2nd Amendment's insistence on "a well regulated militia" for the sake of state and national security.
Just read The 2nd Amendment for what it is: right out of the gate it postulates a priori need for regulation.
For God's sake, "to regulate" is the first verb in the bloody sentence.

Consider all 27 words of The 2nd Amendment:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Conservatives are consistently fond of arguing the Constitution's "original intent."
Notably, when the constitution was written, neither handgun not rifle held more than a single bullet, nor was it anticipated they ever would.

Read a brief history of "Repeating and Automatic Firearms" at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_firearm

Handguns did not "repeat" until 1836, and rifles were single shot until 1892

If an abundance of guns makes us safe,
why isn't America the safest place on earth?

And why are places with almost no guns
-- Japan for example --
among the least dangerous?

"Gun Control and The Second Amendment"

1 comment:

  1. Way to put fear into people..... 99.9% of criminals buy guns illegally.... unlike the 99.9% of law abiding citizens who do... I am not a gun owner and don't ever plan to own one either... One thing i do believe is that if a government takes one right away whats to stop them from taking the rest away.... I understand that there are bad people in this world let alone in this country. And it is unfortunate that innocents have died at the hands of these deranged criminals. But to punish the 350 million Americans for the mistake of a handful of criminals is an obstruction of justice to each individual not involved in these crimes... It is my believe that we have enough federal gun laws that protect us citizens. It is also my belief that 2 amendment clearly states that gun owner ship is each persons individual right..... there are no if's and or buts... It is not a permit for hunting, sports and or other regulation.... It is the right for individual protection from harm.... It is sickening to hear politicians such as "sen. feinstein" twist the meaning of the second amendment for her own purposes. We as Americans should take a stand and protect our rights even if we disagree with some of them. Remember if we lose one right the rest will follow suit.
