Innocent until proven guilty. This phrase is forgotten by many.
Reply:
Rather, a person is "presumed" innocent until proven guilty.
Even so, this "presumption of innocence" is viewed differently in "criminal" and "civil" courts.
In civil law, judgments are made according to "the preponderance of evidence."
And by that "burden of proof," Roy Moore is a serial child molester and Donald Trump raped his first wife.
We also have the evidence of 16 believable women who accuse Deplorable Donald of sexual harassment and sexual abuse.
Put the shoe on your own foot...
If you were the victim of sexual abuse, your abuser would nevertheless enjoy "the presumption of innocence" until a criminal court proved him guilty.
However, the "preponderance of evidence" at your disposal would properly convict your abuser in civil court.
In the final analysis, we presume innocence by one standard, and assign guilt by another.
