St. Joseph Pignatelli, S.J., The Man Who Re-Founded The Jesuits

Joseph Pignatelli (1737-1811).jpg
Dear Bill, Ian and Brian,

While reading the back cover of Pope Francis' biography "Untying the Knots," Janet digressed into out-loud discussion of Jesuit saint Fr. Joseph Pignatelli who is considered the Jesuit's "Second Founder" following the suppression, widespread disbandment and "New World expulsion" of the Society of Jesus starting in 1767 and running through 1813.

This tale represents an interesting and notable "hinge of history."

Janet and I also reflected on the memorable movie "The Mission" which probes the Society's pre-expulsion work protecting native Americans in South America. The movie stars Jeremy Irons, Robert De Niro with Fr. Daniel Berrigan S.J. in a cameo as a Jesuit.

Pax vobiscum
