The Eland, World's Slowest And Gentlest Antelope: An Environmentally Wise Alternative To Cattle

Dear M,

I enjoyed last night's conversation.

Here is follow-up on the eland, an animal recently domesticated in Africa, which seems well-suited to dry or desert areas where it might prove less environmentally-damaging than cattle.

Game Animals: A Substitute For Cattle

As a vegetarian, it may seem repulsive to promote the commercialization of this lovely animal.

That said, it is also true that much of the world's desert is totally unsuited to commercial food production except for grazing animals.

The eland requires remarkably little water so that, at minimum, it makes (tentative and theoretical) sense to hypothesize the replacement of cattle with eland especially in areas like yours where the Bureau of Land Management REQUIRES the grazing of commercially viable livestock.

I hope your expedition is wonderful!

One of the best parts of last night's conversation was to "see" how expertly you already perform your new job requirements.

Well done!

A tip of the hat to you (as your great-grandfather Julius Joseph Noll -- the son of an illiterate laborer -- would often do to indicate high regard).

Love you tons!

Daddy man
