The Demonstrable Delusion Of Same-Sex Marriage Opponents

Saddam Hussein was a Sunni Muslim.
During Saddam's rule, his fellow Sunnis comprised no more than 30% of Iraq's population.
The overwhelming majority of Iraqis were Shiite Muslim.
When Saddam was overthrown, polls showed that Sunnis believed themselves to be Iraq's majority population. And by a decisive margin.

We humans are subject to an overwhelming urge to believe what we want to believe and very often our formal professions of religion have little or nothing to do with Truth.

Often our formal professions are antithetical to Truth because we persuade ourselves that God Almighty demands that we be absolutely faithful to whatever principles we believe God has commanded.

Here is one Big Reason why Truth gets a hot poker up the ass:

"You can safely assume you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out God hates all the same people you do."
Tom Weston S. J.

The easiest way to "feel good about oneself" is to dump on someone else.
What a remarkable coincidence that God wants us to shit on the same people we have in our cross-hairs.

Lest we forget...

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
Devout Christian, Blaise Pascal

Gay marriage opponents don't know they're on the wrong side of public opinion. "What happens when a vocal minority thinks it's a silent majority? According to a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, only 41 percent of Americans oppose allowing same-sex couples to marry. But that same 41 percent has a highly skewed perception of where the rest of the country stands: nearly two-thirds of same-sex marriage opponents erroneously think most Americans agree with them. And only two in 10 same-sex marriage opponents realize that the majority of Americans support marriage equality." Christopher Ingraham in The Washington Post.
