The following quip is attributed to Dwight Eisenhower: "Football is the perfect American sport - lots of violence puntuated by committee meetings."

Capitalism also gave you those things to begin with.
And xenophobia has increased not decreased over time in broad strokes.

The upshot of capitalism as it relates to uneducated people (a descriptor that is qualitatively different from un-instructed people) has been to condition society to live in a matrix of pervasive consumer-unit stupefaction.
Specifically, consumer-unit stupefaction means that anything resembling responsible citizenship has been replaced by dimwitted grasping after self-centered pleasure with little to no consideration for "The Common Good," "The General Welfare" or a truly social "Social Contract."
Increasingly, we are ruled by the informal motto of The Republlican Party: "We Are All In This.... Alone."
