Alan: I postulate that people who (on some level) realize that The Holocaust -- if real -- would undermine (if not eliminate) their belief in God use Holocaust Denial as a way to forfend this untenable quandary.
I do not suggest that my hypothesis is true for all believers.
However, it impresses me as both plausible and sensible.
