Alan: I have no trouble viewing American history as "heroic settlers" oppressing people of color.
In fact, this twin focus may be the best way to interpret American history: deluded heroes enacting the larger "manifest destiny" put in motion by plutocrats who benefit from sending deluded heroes to accomplish their invisible missions.
